October 2016 Newsletter

Hello Ladies!

Money should be given to the Financial Secretary, Cheryl Morin.  She records the fact that money was received and gives it to the Treasurer, Kathy Kral, for deposit.  If this sounds more difficult than it could be, you’re right.  This system was put in place by Supreme Columbiettes for the protection of the integrity of our hard earned money.  Please follow the rules.

The stage curtain has been hung, and it looks really fantastic!

Preparations continue for the Christmas Bazaar (11/19).  We are looking for nice, gently used items for the Silent Auction.  Contact Vicki Rosich about Silent Auction.  If you are knitting or crocheting for the Craft Table, please bring your donations to the meeting so Patty Martinell can plan.  If you are baking Christmas cookies this month, please bake some extra for the Christmas Bazaar.  The next Christmas Bazaar meeting is 10/26 @6:30pm.  We will meet at the Parish Center to evaluate items for the Silent Auction and finalize plans.

Thanks again to Jackie Goddard for the donation of a popcorn machine in memory of our Sister Columbiette, Susan Kenny.  A couple of members assembled it at the meeting and it is just adorable!  We will be serving popcorn at many of our functions.

Fr. Misgivings Comedy Show – Saturday, November 5th – For tickets please contact Cheryl Morin.  Tickets are also available at the Rectory.  This is going to be a really fun night, so please come and invite your friends to join us as well.  The show starts at 8:00pm and the doors open at 7:00pm.  We will offer popcorn, water, soda, coffee, tea, and cookies.  We are asking the members to bake cookies (saves mess) for this event.  Sue Haulotte has volunteered the CCD students to help serve and to clean up the next day.  Excellent!!  The committee consists of Alexandra Kral, Jo Ann Rowley, Kathy Kral, Becky Jusseaume, and myself.  Jo Ann and I are not available the night before, so we will set up Saturday at 1:00pm.

This Saturday (10/22) is our second Day of Reflection.  Fr. Steve is putting together a great program for us!  He is ready to answer any and all questions.  Is there something you want to know but never asked?  Now’s your chance!  You can submit your questions in several ways.  You can phone or e-mail Fr. Steve.  You can e-mail me and I will forward your question anonymously.  You can put your question in an envelope, take a stealthy walk up to the Rectory, drop it in the mail slot, and make a run for it.  Fr. Steve is also preparing a lecture on contemporary saints.  Find out what lessons you should have learned from Mother Theresa (Fr. Steve actually met her!).  Learn about Padre Pio (died in 1968).  Fr. Steve told me a few fascinating stories about him and I can’t wait to hear more!  The program will be from 9:00am-2:00pm.  We will gather at 8:00 for coffee and tea.  All McCabe Columbiettes are asked to bring a pot luck dish for lunch.  The easier to serve, the better.  Suggestions include a cold plate of sandwiches, fruit bowl, or crock pot anything.  Please sign up on the website (www.columbiettesofjewettcity.org) so we know how many are coming.

Tickets are still available for Foxwoods Bingo on 10/28.  Just $15 gets you in the game and a portion of each ticket goes to Columbiettes.  I’m not a fan of gambling, but it’s a cheap night out with friends.  Sue Haulotte has tickets and will be happy to get them to you.  Be advised that all of the unsold tickets must be returned to Foxwoods the day before the bingo or we will have to pay for them.  Please be sure to return unsold tickets to Sue before this.  If you are going to the Day of Reflection, that would probably be a good time to do it.

Our next First Degree will be our 4th anniversary celebration on December 4th.  Our anniversary is always the perfect time to join!  Please ask your pew buddies if they are interested in joining our merry band of ladies!

48 new chairs were ordered for the Church Hall!  This is going to be wonderful for our upcoming events!  Kathy Kral and Becky Jusseaume have volunteered to count the chairs we have.  The capacity of the hall is 300 people; 180 with tables.  We need to keep an adequate number of chairs, but too many would just be in the way and look like a mess.

Cheryl Morin and Donna Coombs are conducting a Living Rosary in conjunction with Religious Education on Sunday, October 30th (9:30-10:45).  So far Dorla Barres, Alex Kral, Linda Champagne, Teresa Brown, Renee Asmar, Yolande Tice, Barbara Hanes, Bea Denomme, Kathy Kral, Leona Minski, Becky Jusseaume, Kathy Luty, and Jo Ann Rowley have signed up to help.  There’s room for you, too!

Next year’s Golf Tournament will be Friday, August 11th.  Mark your calendar!

The Divine Mercy Chaplet has been moved to 1-1/2 hours before the monthly Columbiette meeting.  It will still be held in the chapel.  During the winter, the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be at 5:00.

All of these events appear on the calendar on our website.

As a reminder, the following members without e-mail have been adopted by the person listed with them.  I do mail out the newsletter, but please call your adoptee for any events that come up along the way.  Thanks so much!  E-mail is a great form of communication for all of us who have it, but we certainly want to include these valuable members.
