November Newsletter

Lately I have had several people tell me that they can't believe we've only been in existence for two years.  And yet, it's true!!  I couldn't be prouder of what we have accomplished together.  You amaze me at every turn!  We support one another, our Knights, our Parish, and the State Columbiettes as well.  I feel that we have vastly improved the social structure of our Parish as well.  And we're doing it all in fine style.  My hat is off to each and every one of you!

Please mark your calendar for Sunday, December 7th to celebrate our two year anniversary.  We will sit together at the 11:00 mass - bring your family to celebrate as well!  We will have a pot luck lunch afterward.  Our families and Brother Knights are also invited.  Lunch will be followed by a First Degree Ceremony.  Right now, we are expecting at least three new members.  If you know anyone who may be interested in joining our merry band of ladies, please have them call me and/or sign up on our website.  Now is a great time to become a Columbiette!  All Columbiettes are invited to bring a special dish for the luncheon.  Here is what we have so far:  We have some hors d'oeuvres in the freezer from the Wine & Beer Tasting. Sue Haulotte - dessert, Patty Martinell - egg salad sandwiches, Kristi Surratt - veggies & dip, Kathy Kral - soda, Donna Coombs - paper goods, Me - vegetarian chili, Bea Denomme - meatballs.  Here's the Degree Team - Me (President), Jo Ann Rowley(Vice President), Debbie Shaffer (Past President), Kathy & Alex Kral (Guides), Kristi Surratt (Cross Bearer).

We will be marching in this year's Snowflake Parade on Sunday, November 23rd.  Marchers should meet at the Griswold High School parking lot at 1:30pm.  The parade steps off promptly at 2:00pm.  We didn't talk about having a car, but we could if anyone is interested.  Let me know.

Kathy Kral is still taking orders for poinsettias for our Poinsettia Sale.  Orders can be placed right up until 11/21 (I know the paperwork says differently).  Payment must be received with the order.  Buyers can pick up their pink, white, or red poinsettias on Saturday 11/29 (10:00am-noon). These beautiful poinsettias are being locally grown by Jewett City Greenhouse.  They are approximately 18" tall and have gold foil covering the pot.  They are perfect for nice and easy Christmas décor!

We are joining our Sister Columbiettes around the State in collecting pop tops from beer and soda cans.  They will be donated to the benefit of Ronald McDonald House in New Haven.  Families of severely ill children can stay there for just $15 a night while their children are at local hospitals.  Traci Edwards is coordinating the donations for our Auxiliary.  Joan Carlson is spearheading the collection for State Columbiettes.  Together we will make a difference!

Thanks to everyone who put together our recent Beer & Wine Tasting!  People have told me that the Griswold Fish & Game Club was transformed beautifully, the food was perfect, and they had a great time.  The committee - Sue Haulotte, Becky Jusseaume, Kathy Luty, Paula Nowakowski, and Kathy Brophy - and all who supported this event worked really hard to make is a success.  Thank you!

Another great success was our recent Turkey Dinner!  I heard the food was incredible, and it was a lovely social event.  Thanks to Kathy Kraland her team of cooks, Jo Ann Rowley for taking care of tickets, and Allison Turcotte for taking on the Bake Sale on short notice.  Our social events have been the talk of the town lately - and with good reason!  Thanks to all of you who make them possible.

Our Christmas Bazaar will be Saturday, November 22nd - 10:00am-4:00pm.  I am so looking forward to another fun and profitable event!!
  • Set Up - will be on Friday 11/21.  3:00pm and 6:00pm were mentioned for start times.  Any help you can give is appreciated!  Vendors who are members are also welcome to set up their tables on Friday.  All other vendors can arrive for set up on Saturday at 8:00am.
  • Games of Skill - Alex Kral, Grace Haulotte, Jackie Kral, and Kathy Kral are working on this.  Should be fun!
  • Bake Sale - Renee is handling this.  Please consider baking.
  • Estate Sale - Kathy Luty, Terri Craig, and Rosie Payne are looking for donations for this table.
  • Christmas Decorations - Traci Edwards is chairing a table selling Christmas decorations.  Consider bringing your Christmas decorations out of the attic early this year and donating those items you haven't put up in a few years.
  • Vendors - I have 12 vendors so far, which should work well with the number of tables we need for our own use.
  • Poinsettias - Allison Turcotte is running a table of poinsettias to enhance our Poinsettia Sale.
  • Book Sale - Sue Haulotte is running this table.  We are always looking for book donations.
  • Craft Table - Patty Martinell, Jackie Connelly, and Ceil Roberge are running this table.  We will miss Patty the day of the Bazaar as her son is getting married that day.  We wish him well!!
  • 50/50 Raffle - We will run a 50/50 raffle the day of the Bazaar.  Diane Manning can work on this part of the day.  Would anyone like to help her for part of the day?  Let me know.
  • Silent Auction - Vicki Rosich, Kristi Surratt, Tara Ingraham, Debbie Shaffer, and I are on this committee.  We have some very nice items, and are looking for more.
  • Promotions - Paula Nowakowski has some print and local TV outlets.  Some members are posting the flyer around town.  I will have copies to the CCD Students and also stuff the bulletin.  Kristi Surratt is having a banner made to put in front of the church.  Kristi Surratt and Sue Haulotte are working on the sandwich sign and the yard signs.
  • Food - What would a Christmas Bazaar be without food??  Kathy Kral, Paula Nowakowski, Kathy Brophy, and Barbara Hanes are working on having food available throughout the day for a fee. Always yummy!!
Our Columbiettes Christmas Party is still slated for Wednesday, December 10th.  Please mark your calendar and we will discuss the details at the December meeting.  Rosie Payne & Terri Craig are hosting our Christmas Party!

Thanks so much for all you do!
