Hello Ladies!
The State Columbiettes Convention is Saturday,  June 13th, and it looks like I will be on the ballot for State Financial Secretary.  Since I am State Treasurer now, I cannot act as a delegate for our Auxiliary.  I need two ladies to be our delegates.  We will be bringing our baskets for the raffle and our shoe boxes for the homeless.  It’s a big day, and lots of fun, too!  Please let me know if you can join me!  The cost for each member is $45.  This includes continental breakfast and a nice lunch.  There’s usually some swag coming your way as well.  Our basket themes (very popular last year) are lottery tickets and chocolate.  All donated baskets are raffled to benefit State Columbiettes.   I will have raffle tickets available at the meeting.  Please bring a lottery ticket and chocolate to the May or June meeting for raffle baskets.
Can I just say how absolutely amazing our Ladies Tea was?!!  Our committee  - Kristi Surratt, Kathy Kral, Yolande Tice, Traci Edwards, and Jo Ann Rowley – did a fantastic job of planning an event that everyone raved about. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes and food.  A special thanks to everyone who sponsored a table.  I heard lots of talk about “Next year, I’m going to do…..”
The Griswold Bicentennial Parade is Saturday, May 16th at 1:00pm.  Becky Jusseaume has our application in and we will be marching with the Knights of Columbus.  Renee has arranged for four of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit(nuns previously stationed at St. Mary’s) to join us.  Becky is trying to put together a float and has marvelous ideas!   Jo Ann Rowley, Rosie Payne, Dorla Barres, Terri Craig, and Kristi Surratt have volunteered to sell water, chips, and raffle tickets during the parade.  We need volunteers to help decorate our float.
The stage drapes for the Church Hall are coming along nicely.  The fabric is beautiful to work with and I think they will be really nice for years to come.  We have the new curtain rods for the window valances and need a couple of volunteers to hang them.
This month’s meeting includes our annual Election of Officers.  Please come and vote for who you think will do a good job representing you.
Congratulations to Traci Edwards who is our newest Major Degree member!!
If you open the cabinets in the Church Hall kitchen, please lock them.  A couple of times a month someone tells me that the cabinet was unlocked when they arrived and they locked it.
Save your disposable grocery bags!  We need them for take out dinners at our Cash Raffle Dinner on June 27th.  Feel free to bring them to the meeting.
Our next First Degree will be Sunday, June 7th at 2:00pm.  As of right now, it looks like we have at least four new members!!  As you know, we only run this ceremony quarterly.  If your friends are on the fence, have them check out our website to see what Columbiettes is all about.  Feel free to give them my cell phone number to call for more information as well as letting them know they can check us out on our website – www.columbiettesofjewettcity.org.
Several  members have been asking for us to schedule a work night – perhaps monthly.  As our good fortune would have it, Rosie Payne has hooked us up with an amazing (and I really do mean amazing) amount of silk flowers.  We will be setting up a work night to turn these flowers into wreaths and arrangements that we can sell at our upcoming events for a profit.  Please keep an eye out for any vases that you may be willing to part with that we can use for this project.  I know I have several!!  The large upstairs room is available Monday and Wednesday evenings.  Yes, we need ladies who have a great eye for flower arrangement.  We also need ladies to move boxes and arrangements back and forth.  Dates will be upcoming.
Cash Raffle tickets are available from Donna Coombs and Cheryl Morin.  The other day I asked the office assistant at my doctor’s office if she was interested, and before I knew it I had sold several tickets to some of the ladies.  People love cash!!
Our Women and Finance seminar with Lorna Burkart will be Friday, June 5th at 6:30pm in the Church Hall.  Lorna is an amazing woman and I’m sure that no matter how much you know about money, you will learn something.  What you don’t know about your finances can hurt you!
Columbiettes will be participating in the Junk in the Trunk sale on May 9th (9:00-1:00) to benefit Griswold Middle School.  We will be selling raffle tickets and some of the many items that have been donated to us (a.k.a. the stuff in our first floor storage room).
Most of the aprons have been paid for and picked up.  If you haven’t paid for yours yet, please see me!  They are $15.
The 30th Annual Campership Dinner is being held at Zandri’s Stillwood Inn in Wallingford on Sunday, May 17th at noon.  The cost is $30/person.  This is an opportunity to meet the campers we help and everyone has a good time.  I am working that day, but if you are interested in going, please let me know no later than the meeting.
This month’s meeting will be Monday, May 4th at 6:30pm in the Church Hall.  Social Hour will begin at 5:30. Prospective members are welcome to join us for Social Hour.  If you are confused about the meeting time, I have it posted on our website.
Thanks for all you do!
