May Newsletter

I never got around to sending an April Newsletter, so here is May!

Hello Everyone!

Finally Spring has sprung and we are seeing some lovely weather!

We held our annual elections at the May meeting, and you have chosen as follows:

  • President - Maryann Stradczuk
  • Financial Secretary - Kathy Kral
  • Vice President - Jo Ann Rowley
  • Treasurer - Cheryl Morin
  • Secretary - Donna Coombs
  • Sentinel - Vicki Rosich

Speaking for myself, I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to have a position in our fine organization that brings me such joy.  I am looking forward to another great year!  Thanks also to the officers who do more than you know - I appreciate you!

This year's Columbiettes CT State Convention is being held on Saturday, June 14th in Prospect.  We will meet at St. Mary's at 7:00am. To commemorate Flag Day, it is requested that all attending wear red, white, or blue.  We are allowed to bring four delegates for voting on State business.  I have been asked if I would accept the nomination for State Treasurer.  Cheryl Morin and Debbie Shaffer have already volunteered.  Let me know if you are interested in joining us for this fun girls' day out.  The cost to members is $45 for breakfast and lunch.  Thanks to everyone who donated chocolate and/or scratch lottery tickets for our Baskets for Convention.  We have plenty of items and Ceil Roberge will be putting them together and I will proudly bring them to be raffled off at Convention.

Our next First Degree Ceremony will be Sunday, June 1st at 2:00pm.  If you know of anyone who is considering joining our merry band of ladies, please let them know that we only hold First Degree Ceremonies once per quarter.  Word on the street is that we will have three new members!

The Books & Other Treasurers sale and Pulled Pork BBQ will both be held on Saturday, June 7th.  Here's how it goes.  Books & Other Treasures runs from noon to 6:00pm and takes up half of the Church Hall.  The other half will be set up with tables for the Pulled Pork BBQ which will begin at 5:00pm.  Notice the overlap.  People who come to our sale will undoubtedly smell the wafting aroma of the dinner and want to dine with us - not to mention the 4:00 mass!  The people who have tickets for the BBQ will have to go through our sale and notice our array of lovely books and other vintage items.

Seriously, though, we are looking to sell 300 tickets to the BBQ.  If every one of our members sold six tickets, we would make our goal.  Nobody has to do heavy lifting if everyone does some lifting!  Kathy Kral is your girl for tickets.  I have attached a flyer to this e-mail for your convenience.

Volunteers for the Treasures Sale include Susan Kenney, Jackie Goddard, Vicki Rosich, Alex Kral, and myself.  The kitchen crew will consist of Kathy Kral, Barbara Hanes, Cheryl Morin, Kristi Surratt, and Paula Nowakowski.  The Book Sale will be conducted by Sue Haulotte, Patty Martinell, and Dorla Barres.  Set up will happen Friday night.  Alex Kral will be conducting a Bake Sale to benefitSteubenville East.  Please help out with baking!  If you didn't see your name listed here, please feel free to step up.  The more the merrier!!

Once again we will be marching in the Jewett City Memorial Day Parade (5/26).  I have made my car available to those unable to walk.  Let me know, so I can plan.  Last year we had a fabulous time!  Like last year, we will be wearing white polo shirts and jeans - nothing fancy!  There's still time to order an embroidered shirt from STM Embroidery (, if you like.

Congratulations to Joann Belisle, Alex Kral, Kristi Surratt, and Renee on making their Major Degreeon what was apparently the busiest weekend of the year!  Jo Ann Rowley has offered our assistance with another Major Degree to be held for the Rhode Island auxiliaries to be held in the near future.  We would also be allowed to bring members to make their Major Degree.  More information as it becomes available.

We discussed hosting a Wine & Cheese Fundraiser in October.  Something new!  So far, Sue Haulotte, Becky Jusseaume, Kathy Luty, Paula Nowakowski, and Suzy Kenney have volunteered to put this together.  Sounds fun!

What a lovely time we all had at the Ladies Tea Social!!  Thanks to Kristi Surratt, Kathy & Alex Kral, Traci & CeCe Edwards, Jo Ann Rowley, and her daughter, Christina.  Fr. Ted was so pleased and has ideas for next year.  I would like to suggest that the committee make a summary and notes for next year.  Awesome job!!!  Our Knights made the day special by serving and cleaning after the tea.  Thanks!  We will return the favor for the Gentlemen's BBQ on June 14th.  Jackie Connelly has already volunteered.  Anyone else?

Becky Jusseaume suggested that Columbiettes take over the rosary box in the center vestibule that was previously taken care of by the Legion of Mary.  Great idea!  If you have any rosaries that you are no longer using, please bring them to the meeting and these can be used for the box.  Many of us have several rosaries, but really only use one.  Why not let someone else use them?

Is anyone interested in taking over the Dishwasher project for the Church Hall?  I have not made the time to do an adequate job, and I'm sure someone else would do much better.  If you are interested, please let me know.  Thanks!

Some members have lamented that they are unable to attend the meetings due to other obligations.  I send out the newsletter so you can keep abreast of what is going on and volunteer to help out and support our many events.  If in doubt, check the website or call for more information.  The more the merrier!  As always, thanks so much for all you do!  I am so proud of what our group accomplishes!
