Hello Ladies!

Spring is a busy time for State Columbiettes.  Here are two upcoming events:

March 29th is the Annual Day of Recollection in Wolcott, CT.  This is a lovely, spiritual event and is also a good opportunity to hob nob with other Columbiettes around Connecticut and find out what they’re doing that works.  I have really enjoyed getting to know many of these fine ladies!  The cost per person is $23.00 and they have requested RSVPs by March 12th.  I plan to go and can take four in my car.

Here’s the schedule of events for the Day of Recollection:

10:00-10:30am - Assorted danish, juice, coffee, and tea.

10:30-11:30am - Introduction:  Guest Speaker, Father Kevin Donovan

11:30-12:00noon - Awards Presentation

12:00-1:00pm - Luncheon:  Soup, wraps, salads, dessert, coffee, tea, soda.

1:00-2:00pm - “A Walk with Jesus,” narrated by Judy Bellemare

March 16th is the Testimonial Dinner for Immediate Past Supreme President Pam Desaulniers in Prospect, CT beginning at noon.  Pam is a delightful woman who is still very active in State Columbiettes business and is the first Supreme President from Connecticut.  The cost for this outing is $60.00 and RSVPs are requested by March 1st.  I will be going and would love to have company!

Columbiettes are organizing a Ladies Tea Social on Saturday, May 3rd at 1:30pm for all ladies of the parish.  Entertainment has been procured and we are planning a lovely afternoon for the ladies.  Ladies can bring their own tea cup and could even trade, if they wanted to.  The food will likely be little sandwiches, fresh fruit, dainty desserts, and punch in punch bowls.  The arrangements are not written in stone, but this should be a very enjoyable day.  The Knights have agreed to serve and clean up for the event so we can all enjoy the day.  We are looking to form a committee to make this event easier.

The Knights of Columbus will be organizing a Gentlemen’s BBQ on Saturday, June 14th at 1:30pm for all of the gentlemen of the parish.  We thought that the guys could have a good old fashioned outdoor BBQ with burgers, hot dogs, chips, potato salad, cookies.  If they wish, they could use our new Bingo set for entertainment and play polkas on the new sound system.  Of course the entertainment choices are up to the Knights on this.  I mention this event here because Columbiettes have volunteered to serve and clean up after this event so all of the Knights can enjoy the afternoon.

April 26th is the Major Degree Ceremony.  All Columbiettes who became members on our Installation day are Major Degree members.  If you came in after 12/2/2012, you are a First Degree member and I am appealing to you to join me and go to the Major Degree Ceremony.  The ceremony is very faith affirming and moving.  Last year, Jo Ann Rowley and I went to be on the Major Degree Team and had a really nice day.  One Auxiliary President brought twelve of her members to become Major Degree members.  I was so proud of her!  Major Degree members are eligible to run for Auxiliary and State offices and can vote at the State Convention in June.  The Knights have four degrees of membership that they have ceremonies for, but the Columbiettes have only two.  If you are eligible, please consider this upgrade!!  Vicki Rosich and Debbie Shaffer can also tell you how much fun it is to go.  At the very least, it is a lovely ladies’ day out!.

It looks like we will have three new members for our First Degree Ceremony on March 2nd at 2:00pm - Lisa Lavado, Alex Kral, and Valerie Pudvah.  If you know anyone who is interested, please let them know that we only run them quarterly and the next one won’t be until June!  They can sign up on our website - www.columbiettesofjewettcity.org - and we will contact them to give them further details.

This month’s Fourth Friday Movie Night is Monsters University.  That will be this coming Friday (the 28th) at 6:30pm.  Sue Haulotte is running this event and I plan to bring my grandson, Derek.  Why not join us with your kids or grandkids?  It’ll be fun!

At the meeting we had much discussion about the possibility of buying new tables for the Church Hall.  Commercial tables would run $225 each.  At the Christmas Bazaar we used every table we have, and boy some of them are just in awful condition!  It is something to keep in mind for the near future.

Vicki Rosich’s CCD class is in need of oatmeal boxes (the tall, round cylinder kind).  Please save them and bring to the meeting.

Our DeMarle Cooking Party was yesterday afternoon.  The food was really good and I got some new cooking ideas, which is my real purpose in going.  Soon I will be able to make a pie that I can cut and serve perfectly!  If you would like to order or book from our party, you can go to www.mydemarleathome.com/johanna or call Johanna at 860-376-3034.

Debbie Shaffer found a beautiful St. Theresa statue that she has generously donated to our happy group!!  She is lovely and will have her first official function at our First Degree Ceremony next weekend.  Thanks, Deb!!

The date for the Spring Fling Bazaar has been changed to May 17th.  Please mark your calendars since the more people we have, the better it is for everyone!  If you know of anyone who is interested in being a vendor, please have them contact me.  I will have the sign up sheet on the website very soon as well.

Our next meeting will be March 3rd at 7:00pm.  See you at 6:00 for Social Hour!!  I hope you’re having a sparkly day in this balmy 55 degree weather!
